Law Firm Video Production Work

What actually happened on these shoots.

Benchmark Commercials has produced video for dozens of personal injury firms nationwide. These are the projects we are free to name: the firms, what they needed, and what we made. Not case studies with invented numbers.

A note on what is missing from this page.

We have worked with dozens of firms nationwide, and a large share of that work was white-labeled. For those projects we cannot say who the firm was. You would never know it was us.

So this page is not everything. It is what we are free to show. Between the legal work and everything that came before it, we have filmed across more than fifteen states and in ten countries.

Byrd Davis Alden & Henrichson

Austin, Texas · Client testimonial and dram shop practice area video

Benchmark Commercials produced the client testimonial and the dram shop practice area video for Byrd Davis Alden & Henrichson, Austin’s oldest plaintiffs’ personal injury firm.

They told us plainly that they do not do television commercials and do not want to look like a firm that does. They wanted to look authentic, because they are. Their clients arrive through reputation rather than billboards.

The problem with a firm like that is that a website cannot carry it. Someone landing on their page would have no way of knowing the extent of what this firm does.

We filmed the family in the Willow Walker case. Six years old, in a car on the highway, hit by a drunk driver. She survived and her life changed completely. Byrd Davis won a $112.9 million verdict in Travis County, the largest personal injury and dram shop verdict in that county to date, published on their own case results page.

What nobody visiting their website would ever guess is that the drunk driver carried $30,000 of insurance and the restaurant that overserved him carried none. There was nothing to collect. The firm took no fee on the case. They tried it anyway, for a verdict that told the defendants what they were responsible for.

That is the heart and soul problem in a single example. It is the best thing about the firm and it was completely invisible.

We shot across Austin so the videos would feel unmistakably local: the courthouses, drone work over the city, and the Pfluger Bridge, which anyone who lives there recognizes instantly. The client testimonial and the dram shop practice area video came out of that shoot, and both are among the work we are proudest of.

Solution Now Law Firm

A remote firm, filmed on a built studio set · Brand story

Benchmark Commercials produced the brand story for Solution Now Law Firm. Three real obstacles. The firm is remote, with no office to shoot in. They are relatively young, which can read as inexperienced even when it is not. And their results were genuinely strong but nothing on the website conveyed that.

So we built the firm. A studio, a person brought in specifically to stage it, and a master shoot schedule to bring people in from different cities and get everything captured in the window we had. Every question set built person by person in advance, so nobody arrived at the studio wondering what they were there to say.

Jimin Oh offered a testimonial afterwards without being asked. She described how nervous she had been going in, because so many separate pieces had to land on the same day.

Their fractional CMO, James Moorhouse, later told us the intake team reaches for the videos when someone is still deciding.

Their quality is incomparable to other marketing companies’ videos. With experience doing hundreds of videos for law firms, I could really trust them.

Kash Legal

Los Angeles, California · Brand story and an ongoing Day in the Life series

Kash Legal described themselves to us in pre-production as resourceful, experienced, ready for a fight. All true, and none of it was the thing.

We arrived and found one of the most genuinely warm firms we have ever filmed. Attorneys hugging clients. Kids around. Clients who clearly loved them. A coffee shop nearby that we ended up shooting at.

None of that was on the pre-production calls, because it is not the sort of thing a firm thinks to say about itself. It is exactly why we build in as many chances to catch it as we do.

We filmed the hug between an attorney and a client’s mother, and a high five with her child. Those two shots say more about the firm than anything they could have told us on a call.

We have since made multiple Day in the Life videos for them. Jonathan’s time is spoken for, so we handle it end to end. He gives us the client’s number and we coordinate the rest.

It truly humanizes the client. It breaks her daily struggles down activity by activity. Nobody can watch that video and not feel for her.

That was sent to us after one of those videos was shown in a litigation meeting.

Sweeney Merrigan

Boston, Massachusetts · Attorney profile videos

Benchmark Commercials produced attorney profiles for Sweeney Merrigan. Not a brand story. Profile videos, and the brief was that each attorney should come out looking like themselves rather than like a set.

We shot across the Boston seaport, which every person in that city knows on sight. And we pushed the firm to dig out real evidence from a home explosion case. They found it. Filming attorneys handling books burned to ash and a helmet from another case gave us footage that no amount of staging would have produced.

Callahan & Blaine

Orange County, California · Brand story and television cuts

Benchmark Commercials produced the brand story and the television cuts for Callahan & Blaine. A firm built on strength and scale, and the rooftop idea was theirs. Anyone who has passed John Wayne Airport has seen their name on the building, so putting the attorneys on top of it made the connection immediate.

We do not usually push firms toward that register, but here the recognition was worth it. The ad cuts from that project have been running for two years.

The rooftop sequence opens this one. We shot several different rooftop sequences for them across a number of videos.

Setareh Law

Brand story built around specific demographics

Benchmark Commercials produced the brand story for Setareh Law. Built around specific demographics, with a deliberately varied set of people interviewed so different prospects would see someone like themselves.

We also pushed them to buy props, including a set of model cars on a roadway that photographed far better than they had any right to. Behind the scenes it meant a certificate of insurance for the building and a freight elevator booked to get the gear upstairs. Every firm needs something different, and most of it is invisible in the finished video.

The Williams Law Firm

New York · Brand story, filmed on a built set

Benchmark Commercials produced the brand story for The Williams Law Firm. Mesothelioma work, filmed in a rented New York studio rather than in an office.

Building the set meant every element in frame was chosen rather than inherited, from the light through to what sat on the desk.

We also filmed him walking into Memorial Sloan Kettering, one of the leading centers in the country for mesothelioma treatment. Anyone in that situation recognizes the building on sight, and recognition is most of what credibility is made of.

MSWD

Helena, Montana · Brand story

Benchmark Commercials produced the brand story for MSWD, filmed in Montana during COVID, with testing, clearances and protocols layered on top of a normal shoot day.

It ran on schedule. That is the whole story, and on that shoot it was the point.

We also put the drone up and brought out the mountain ranges around Helena, which is the kind of thing a firm cannot say about itself and does not have to.

Lever & Ecker

The first law firm project Benchmark ever shot

Lever & Ecker was our first law firm shoot, and still one of the best experiences we have had. A generous firm and attorneys who were easy to work with.

It is also where we first used a light through a window to shape and extend natural sunlight rather than fight it, which has been part of how we light interviews ever since.

The first law firm project we ever shot.

Almost nobody thinks they are good on camera

One attorney walked out of his interview certain it had not gone well. It had, but nothing we said on the day changed his mind.

When the first version reached him he wrote back more or less asking how on earth we had produced that from what he had given us, and saying he needed to watch it again before he could think of any notes.

His words are one of the testimonials on our home page.

That reaction is closer to the rule than the exception, and how someone feels walking out has never once been the thing that decided how the video turned out.

Other work

A few more

Most of what we have made cannot go on this page at all, because it was white-labeled and the firm is not ours to name. These are a few of the ones we can talk about.

  • A Fort Worth firm, filmed at the stockyards. White-labeled, so we cannot name them. The location did most of the work.
  • A wrongful death Day in the Life. We filmed the funeral and interviewed the family that day. As difficult as this work gets, and what the family wanted.
  • A Florida client with Parkinson’s following a traumatic brain injury. Filmed at home. No music, no drama, just what her day actually involves.
  • A Day in the Life assembled entirely from existing material. No shoot at all. Sometimes the job is the edit.

If you want to hear how one of these projects actually ran, that is a better conversation than a case study.
